In addition to my work as an architecture illustrator, I involved since the end of 2006 in works for the art through the company Factum-Arte.
One big project I worked on was the production of a scale 1 fac-simile of "Les Noces de Cana" from Veronese.
The original is in Le Louvre in Paris facing Mona Lisa. The painting is approximately 10m x 7m.
The fac-simile was produced to be presented in the refectory of the Monastery San Giorgio in Venice, Italy, where it was originally painted by Veronese. 210 years ago Napoleon took it to Paris. For various reasons the original would stay in Le Louvre so the decison was made by the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, who manages the monastery to commission Factum-Arte to produce a fac-simile.
I was involved in that project in Le Louvre, gathering data with a specially made scanner and photographic equipment for 3 weeks.
My duty was then to put together all this data (1600 scans, 600 photographs) into a 2 layer image file (one layer with scanner data, one layer with photographic data) perfectly adjusted and registered, in order to print in 2 passes to get the best results from a specially made printer. The printer would print 1x2m pannels that were assembled. 44 of them in total. The files were at 300dpi from an original resolution of 600dpi for the scanner and 400dpi for the photography.
At 300dpi, 10m x 7m represents 10 000 000 000 pixels.
Other projects for Factum-Arte involve 3D work and production of sculptures for Anish Kapoor. The confidential caracter of this work forbids me to post images yet.
